Chrysler ENVI Goes to the 2009 Geneva Auto Show

Chrysler will showcases its electric vehicle future at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show when it premieres the Chrysler 200C EV Concept and the Dodge Circuit EV Prototype developed by ENVI, which is an in-house organization that was established by Chrysler in 2007 to focus on electric-drive production vehicles and related technologies.

ENVI's (the first four letters of the word environmental) goal is to significantly reduce both the dependency on fossil fuels and CO2 emissions. The electric-drive technology that will be developed through this program will be applied to all of the American manufacturers' vehicles.

“ENVI Electric Vehicle technology will provide customers with vehicles that achieve zero tailpipe emissions and a 241 to 322 kilometer driving range,” said Lou Rhodes, ENCI president. The result of ENVI’s Electric Vehicle technology are the Chrysler 200C EV Concept and Dodge Circuit EV Prototype.

Chrysler 200C EV has a 64 kilometers (40 miles) of all-electric range and is capable of a 644-kilometer (400-mile) total driving range, while the bigger Dodge Circuit EV boasts a range of 241 to 322 kilometers (150 to 200 miles) with zero gasoline consumption and zero tailpipe emissions.

ENVI powered electric vehicles utilize three primary components: an electric motor which drives the wheels, an advanced lithium-ion battery system to power the electric-drive motor and a controller that manages energy flow.

Chrysler all-electric vehicles can be recharged by plugging them into a standard 110-volt or 220-volt household outlet. The recharge time can be cut in half by using a 220-volt household appliance power socket.

"We will produce at least one of these vehicles for North American markets in 2010 and for European markets after 2010,” Chrysler Planning Operations vice president Michael Manley said.
