Total production of Chrysler’s award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine hit the three million mark today, the Detroit-based automaker announced, adding that the milestone event occurred at its Trenton Engine Complex plant in Michigan.
Introduced for the 2011 model year, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 mill is now available in 17 Chrysler Group vehicles across nine market segments. Built at the company’s Trenton and Saltillo (Mexico) plants, the 3.6-liter Pentastar designed was also borrowed for the new 3.2-liter and 3.0-liter engines, which are fitted to the Chinese-market 2014 Cherokee and 2014 Grand Cherokee respectively.
According to the Auburn Hills-headquartered manufacturer, nearly half of all Chrysler Group vehicles sold during first 10 months of year are motivated by Pentastar engines.
“The 3.6-liter Pentastar not only has provided our many customers with billions of miles of reliable service and driving enjoyment, it is testament to our powertrain engineering prowess,” said Bob Lee, Chrysler Group vice president. “With minimal modification, this engine delivers world-class performance in multiple applications. While our customers benefit from its wide range of capabilities, Chrysler Group benefits from economies of scale.”
