When we heard the rumors that a new Ferrari smartphone will soon reach the market, the first thing we did was checking out the Italian’s official store. Looking further into our other sources, we still couldn’t find any clue the exotic brand is planning to manufacture its own phone. Then we realized the gizmo is named after the company, but designed by a Chinese electronics retailer.
Since we recently wrote about the Tonino Lamborghini Tauri 88, a limited edition luxury smartphone, we figured that other sportscars manufacturers are to follow their path. That’s why we were kind of expecting Ferrari to also design some sort of a smartphone themselves, but never did we imagine they will do it in partnership with a Chinese company.

However, judging by the fact the device just popped up on GFXBench, the graphics benchmark database, it appears that is exactly what’s going on. Designed by Xiaomi, the device is running under the Ferrari codename and is a mid-range device fitted with an octa-core, 64-bit Snapdragon 615 chipset.

Amenities such as a 4.9-inch, 1080 display, 2GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 12GB are making the new smartphone look quite promising. As for the cameras, the Xiaomi Ferrari smartphone will come with a 13MP sensor in the back, while the front-facing snapper is a 5MP one.

Now, whether or not we should get all excited of the possibility a new collectable most of the Ferrari fanatics out there would most likely buy, it’s not for us to say. But we can tell you this, until there’s something official coming from the Italian sportscar maker we’ll just call it a marketing thing the Chinese company is pulling.
