The Chevrolet Spark received a score of 15.1 out of 16 points, as well as a five-star rating in the frontal crash test, which was performed at 56 km/h (34.7 mph). The car also received a five-star rating in the offset frontal crash test at 64 km/h (39.7 mph) and in the side crash test at 54 km/h (33.5 mph) against a moving deformable barrier.
Pedestrian protection was rated at four stars, while the protection provided for children was awarded maximum points. Whiplash protection was also found to be good.
“The outstanding performance of our new mini-car in stringent NCAP testing reflects our attention to safety as well as eye-catching styling and great packaging," said Jack Keaton, vehicle line executive for General Motors’ Global Mini-Vehicle.
“GM has made safety a focus as part of our ongoing commitment to design, build and sell the best vehicles in the world.”
Currently, the Spark is being offered in Asia and Europe and will make its way into the US two years from now. The current version comes sporting a choice of two engines, 1.0- and a 1.2-liter petrol units.
After being tested by the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) last November, prior to its market launch on the European market, the new Chevrolet Spark has been rated at 4 stars.
