Chevrolet Works with Disney for a Special Cruze Model Inspired by TRON: Legacy

Just in case you felt the Auto China 2016 was missing its fair share of crazy, useless concepts, here is Chevrolet coming to the rescue with this weird-looking Cruze model.

If you didn't know better, you'd think the Chevy has had glow-in-the-dark accents painted on its body, and it's now on display under black light. Since all we've got to go by are these four images released by Chevrolet, we have no idea what it looks like in real life, but somehow we feel we'd be disappointed.

The concept - which doesn't go by a particular name - was created by Chevrolet in partnership with The Walt Disney Company China to mark the Shanghai Disney Resort that opens on July 16. Chevrolet is the resort's official automotive partner, so it chose to celebrate the future grand opening with a car inspired by Disney's sci-fi movie TRON: Legacy.

The vehicle design featured in the movie is a few good miles away from anything within Chevrolet's range, but still the American brand decided to settle on a Cruze sedan. The car was painted black, and then some striking blue accents were added on the bumpers, the side, the hood, the roof, and the trunk. On the two front doors there's a "TRON" inscription in matching color, while the front and rear optic blocks also feature reflective material in a light-blue hue behind tinted glass housing.

The interior follows the same recipe of using the blue stripes to create a contrast with the large black surfaces, reminiscent of those trails left behind by the movie vehicles. It will surprise no one that this one-of-a-kind concept also has blue ambient lighting - in fact, let's just settle that whatever isn't black, is blue, apart from the yellow bowtie logo.

Given the crazy designs featured in the movie, it's hard for any car currently out on the roads to replicate the futuristic atmosphere there, but this Cruze gives it a valiant try. It can't hide the fact that, underneath it all, there's still a mainstream sedan waiting to be bought for very practical reasons. However, the fact that it can make you instantly think of TRON: Legacy despite all that is truly remarkable.
