Chevrolet Funding Both Sides of UK Football Rivalry

It seems that Jeep isn’t the only American carmaker to be interested in appearing on a European football club’s jersey, as now, after having already signed a deal with Manchester United, Chevrolet will also be sponsoring Liverpool.
This reminds us of conspiracy stories from World War II, when the ‘same bad people’ funded both sides - and trust us, Man U and Liverpool do not like each other at all, and it will be very odd for them to be sponsored by the same company. But, then again, anything is possible these days and Chevrolet may decide to sponsor a third big team from the UK, or a fourth - we wouldn’t bet against it.

While it’s not clear how much money Liverpool is getting, the deal will last until the end of the 2015/2016 season of the Premiership. Despite Chevrolet having absolutely no prior relation with Liverpool or its football club, Global Chevrolet Marketing Vice President Chris Perry said "Liverpool supporters from around the world are known for their undying love of their side [. . .] Our relationship with Liverpool FC extends beyond the traditional boundaries of sponsorship and is about engaging with supporters. Everything we do will be aimed at keeping them at the center of the game." We're sorry Mr. Perry, but we don't really believe a word you said.

We are sorry for not buying this, as we have come to understand that money-driven deals such as this one, involving millions upon millions, are never really important for the fans. For them, it’s just another brand on the front of their favourite team’s jersey. Sadly, even a giant like Liverpool (a team backed up by some of the most amazing fans in the world, and one which we admire) needs exterior sources of money and Chevrolet is only too happy to pay up!
