Chevrolet has created an RS sporty appearance package for the Cruze and is showcasing it at the New York International Auto Show.

The Cruze’s front end has received a new fascia, featuring a mesh grille for the lower air intake (this has the same design as the one used for the radiator grille) and new fog light housings that come with chromed ornaments. The car’s rocker panels now come with a more aggressive design, while its rear bumper has been redesigned showing a mesh grille lower part that features a chromed strip. In addition to this, the car has received a rear spoiler lip.

The RS package also brings changes to the Cruze’s interior, where the instrument cluster receives chrome-finished accent rings and opaque cluster bezels. The sporty car rides on 19 inch custom rims that use 235/40 tires, a pretty impressive feature for a car like the Cruze.

The Cruze RS uses the same engine as the recently-introduced “green” version of the car, the Cruze Eco. This is a turbocharged 1.4 liter petrol unit that uses variable valve timing to deliver 140 hp and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque while returning an estimated highway fuel consumption of 40 mpg (when it is coupled with a six-speed manual transmission)

"For customers who want even more personality and presence in their vehicle, the RS appearance package builds on the already bold face and coupe-like proportions of the Cruze," said Michael Simcoe, executive director, North American Exterior Design.

The RS package can be ordered with the LT and LTZ trim levels and is expected to become available immediately after the Cruze is introduced to the market, in the third quarter of the current year.
