When you find yourself at the drag strip and are seeking for an opponent, you should keep in mind that any kind of machine can deliver a serious challenge. So when the driver of a fifth-gen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 saw a guy in an aging Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 lining up next to him, the battle was on.
The stunt took place at the Mission Raceway Park, a facility located in Canada, with the muscle cars enjoying the safety of the track, as well as the prepped surface.

And we have to explain that the two needed all the help they could get, since both came in manual trim. As such, the aficionados behind the wheel had to be extra careful when getting the supercharged V8 animals off the line.

This is where the wielder of the 'Stang had an advantage, since the live rear axle of the thing is less sensitive to abuse. Speaking of which, the Shelby GT500 we have here belongs to the 2007-2009 incarnation of the thing, packing 500 horsepower. So the thing is a meaty 80 hp down on the golden bowtie machine.

What do the numbers tell us?

We can take the time to look at the quarter-mile performance of the two muscle beasts. The power-to-weight ratio sees the ZL1-branded Chevy leaving the Blue Oval machine way behind.

However, if we zoom in on the drag strip performance the two recorded during independent testing, we'll notice they're actually pretty close.

As such, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 needs at least 12 seconds flat to play the 1,320 feet game, while the previous incarnation of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 can be just as quick.

Then again, the said numbers were achieved under ideal conditions, so you shouldn't necessarily expect to see them in the battle that awaits you in the piece of footage below.
