Right as we are heading into 2024, the American pony and muscle car realm seems like Stranger Things' in real life. That's because some models are now ghosts while others are transforming into something else entirely.
For example, the Blue Oval company is not getting a lot of competition for the S650 Ford Mustang EcoBoost and 5.0-liter Coyote V8-powered GT and Dark Horse from the Mopar side of things because the Dodge Challenger just ceased production, and the 2024 Charger is morphing back into a two-door liftback coupe with Hurricane mills and EV power under the hood – but only sometime beyond the second half of next year.
Meanwhile, General Motors has also finished manufacturing the final sixth-generation Chevy Camaro Convertible and coupe at the end of November and middle of December – but they are not giving us any follow-up at the moment. The company only promised the nameplate is not dead yet – just that it doesn't have a successor at the moment.
No worries, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is always eager to prepare something in advance. For example, Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media) is a prolific virtual artist who loves to dream of all the latest models across the wide-ranging automotive realm. So, in between stuff like electric Alfa Romeos and the potentially upcoming 2025 Volvo ES90 all-electric flagship sedan, the pixel master also found a little time to deal with Chevrolet's anxieties about not having a worthy Camaro in the lineup.
Catering to the rumor mill's previous reports about how General Motors decided Chevrolet might part ways with Camaro and Corvette as model lines and instead turn them into their rightful sub-brands, the CGI expert dreamt of a seventh-generation Camaro SUV. Not only that, but it's also all-electric, just like the Bolt EV plus EUV, Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV.
Well, that would undoubtedly make it a potential flagship, right? However, there are a few issues with that line of thought. First, it would have to be larger or about the same dimensions as the mid-size Blazer EV but also more potent than its Blazer SS version, which is supposed to come out to play with 557 electric ponies when GM finally sorts out the Ultium mess it has made so far.
Also, there's another predicament. The virtual artist also envisioned the potential looks of the rumored Corvette EV SUV – and that one would also clash with the Camaro EV SUV and its likely rightful place in the zero emissions lineup. Oh, well, you can always choose a digital favorite because we got them together in a quick CGI mashup. Also, time will tell if General Motors will ever bring a Camaro SUV to life as an EV or if they will use the Corvette nameplate for that instead.
