The Camaro ZL1 might be set on pause right now, but we still have good news for Chevy fans. The company said today that a total of 69 COPO Camaros will be built as purpose-built drag racer. These will compete professionally in the NHRA Stock Eliminator and Super Stock racing classes, with availability of three different engines and various racing components setting them apart.
These come in the form of either a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8, 5.3-liter V8 with a 2.9-liter supercharger and a 5.3L V8 with a 4.0-liter supercharger. Quick shift times for all the engines are ensured by a racing-spec Powerglide automatic gearbox.
The base car you’ll start with is $89,000 and comes in a range of five different colors: Flat Black, Summit White, Victory Red, Silver Ice Metallic and Ashen Gray Metallic. Only 69 will be built, and will spread Chevrolet’s good name across the country.
"The COPO Camaro is going to shake up the sportsman drag racing ranks this summer and give Chevy fans a great new reason to cheer on the Bowtie," said Jim Campbell, the GM's U.S. VP of performance vehicles and motorsports.
