Getting to billions of children in one night to deliver presents is not an easy thing to do. Actually, there are over 2 billion of them waiting for the bearded guy to show this year and he has to deliver. Therefore, he left his reindeers behind and went for something a little more… mechanical.

In a funny new commercial spot BMW shows Santa Claus racing a brand new BMW M4 and the old timer has some skills behind the wheel. Sure, the video is too short to grasp exactly how he intends to reach all these houses in the eve of December 25 but still, it’s an interesting proposal.

The hard cold say that he has to reach 91.8 million homes in just 31 hours. That means there are 822.6 visits to be made per second. Going even further, you’ll learn that he has 1 thousandth of a second to park, hop out of the M4, get inside the house, leave the presents, get back to the car and get to the next house.

If the houses were distributed evenly across the globe, he would have to cover .78 miles (1.2 km) for each house which then adds up to roughly 75 million miles (120 million km). Could the reindeer do that? Probably not since the average speed he would have to reach would be 650 miles per second (3,767,400 km/h) or, to put it in a different way, about 3 thousand times faster than the speed of sound.

Now, the M4 might not be the fastest car on Earth but it will do a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) which can go up to 174 mph (280 mph) with the M Driver’s Package while the reindeers can go up to just around 15 mph (24 km/h). It’s not enough but it’s still an improvement! Which car do you think Santa should use?
