Since the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli, Dorna decided that a fast response medical team should be present at every race. This team should also be able to do surgery on sport, in case the rider's life is in peril and the only way is to act as soon as possible, at the very site of the crash.

The fast response team is led by doctors Charte and Mir, and has all the medical equipment needed for pretty much any scenario... if they can just reach the fallen rider(s) and are allowed to do their jobs. Sometimes facing opposition from local doctors, the team has also received threats, as the restrictive Australian laws could be used to prevent them from doing their job.

It is yet unclear whether the Australian doctors were the ones who finally reached Carlos Checa after his brutal crash in Race 1. However, Melandri, who was also knocked down in Checa's crash, managed to reach him before the doctors, despite the pain he felt after his own serious crash and fearing a new shoulder fracture. Melandri also becries the way they handled his fellow rider.

It looks like Dorna has still a lot to do as far as rider assistance is concerned, and we can only hope thing will be mended before anything really bad happens.
