2013 WSBK: Carlos Checa Crashes Hard in Race 1

Bad news for Ducati Alstare in the first round of the 2013 WSBK season. While Carlos Checa and his bike did really well in the pole position race just days ago, the race itself proved to be ill-fated as Checa went down really hard in Race 1 of the first SuperBike event of the year at Phillip Island, Australia.
Checa missed the second round of the race as he was kept in the hospital for medical examinations. Hopefully things are ok with the Spaniard: we saw him walk away from the terrible crash which mauled his bike pretty well, but it was also clear he was beat up, too.

Carlos Checa's crash has also affected another podium contender, Goldbet BMW rider Marco Melandri, who outbraked himself while entering the circuit's Turn 4. We will be back with news on the Spanish Ducati rider as soon as the doctors in Melbourne and his team provide more extensive info.
