Champion's Week Starts on November 30

Following the conclusion of the 2009 Sprint Cup series, NASCAR will debut the Champion's Week event on Monday, November 30 near El Cajon, California, the hometown of Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson.

The Jimmie Johnson Foundation will make their appearance in the US Marine Corps’ Camp Pendleton on Monday, after awarding grants to several public schools and before heading to a homecoming at Lowe’s in Santee.The Sprint Cup champion will host a Breakfast and Champion’s Q&A at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on Tuesday.

The celebration of the championship win, which will take all week, will eventually lead to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony, held at Wynn Las Vegas on Friday, the first time in 28 years when the ceremony will not be held in New York. The full schedule of the award ceremony can be found in the PDF attached below.

As we told you at the end of last month, the ceremony will also host the 2009 edition of the Stewie Awards, presented by two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart. The awards will honor 2009 highlights, as follows:

  • Feels Like The First Time Award – most notable first in NASCAR
  • Best Original Drama - the most exciting race moment
  • Best Original Comedy - the most entertaining incident
  • Best Vocal Performance - most memorable quote
  • Smokey Yunick Award – most creative and illegal modifications to a race car
  • Bonehead Move of the Year Award
  • I Got Dumped Award – most memorable on-track bumping
  • Hal Needham Award – most spectacular crash
  • Best Driver2Crew Chatter Exchange
  • Golden Stewie Award - honoring a legendary driver from the Golden Era of racing
  • Stewie Lifetime Achievement Award
