Caterham Superlight R500, for Just £19.99

The Caterham Superlight R500 is now tiny enough to fit into a Christmas stocking. Though some of you might think it is a joke, the 1:16 scale model, with full function radio control, makes for an ideal gift for anyone over the age of 8 years, Top Gear fans in particular.

The model has been recreated to scale complete with remote control and BBC Top Gear’s The Stig behind the wheel. The miniature Caterham R500 celebrates the model’s star turn on BBC Top Gear last December.

The full size version demonstrated its performances around the program’s famous test track, recording one of the fastest ever laps, and therefore receiving the show’s coveted Car of the Year award for 2008.

Not only is the Caterham R500 available in two colors - the famous white and red stripe, plus the yellow and black combination - but both are on separate radio frequencies, allowing owners to race each other.

Exclusively sold from Marks & Spencer stores nationwide, the remote controlled Caterham R500 is priced at £19.99.

Some three months ago, LEGO was releasing the Top Gear theme, capturing a ‘square’ moment of BBC TV’s famous show and added a scene with the show’s presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as well as the Stig around a Caterham R500 LEGO replica.

The real Caterham 7 Superlight R500 is fitted with a 2.0-liter Caterham Powertrain (CPT) Ford Duratec engine developing 263 bhp at 8,500 rpm and mated to a six-speed gearbox. This boosts the car from naught to sixty in 2.88 seconds and enables it to sprint until the needle freezes at a top speed of 150 mph.
