Maybe you’re not such a big fan of Lego bricks, but you do feel some weird connection with anything that is made out of carbon fiber (don’t worry, you’re not the only one). Since you’re sick of buying cases, watches and what not made out of the glossy black material, you could switch to something better.
Consider it as a custom, pimped-up upgrade to you son’s Lego Batmobile. Created by the proud father of three boys who seems to spend quite a lot of time with them building Lego sets, the carbon fiber tiles are made from 3mm sheets of high gloss carbon fiber that you simply put on the famous toy-bricks. Why? Well, to make them look better, cooler.

They crew of four (father and three sons) received the first samples in November and “once we held these pieces in our hands and added them to some of our designs-we thought we might have something special”. The experimental tiles are currently part of a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, but the creators are confident it could become a hit among Lego enthusiasts.

According to them, if the project will be backed, then they will expand the selection of title sizes and materials. They could start by adding 2x2 and 1x4 tiles, to the current 1x2 models, and even machining new models from aluminum and stainless steel.

In specs, the tiles are 3mm tall and machined from sheets of aerospace grade carbon fiber. These sheets are produced to exacting standards but there can be an 8/1000 inch thickness variation from sheet to sheet. The Carbon Fiber Tiles project is the brainchild’s of Mark Carpenter who had his sons co-opted along.

In the Kickstarter video he sort of uses them in order to get people’s attention, which up to one point is alright, but maybe he could’ve done better.
