Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Production Model Filmed in Andalusia: Debut Imminent

We've known Alfa Romeo was planning a spider version of the 4C for quite some time now and frankly speaking, we are really excited. We have reason to believe that the launch of this exciting new model will take place at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show because a couple of production models were recently spotted engaging in a photo shooting.

Spanish magazine motor.es scooped this video in the sunny classical town of Andalusia, where a yellow and a red 4C Spider participated in a photo shooting. They had a couple of sexy models in retro attire and an old Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva Spider to remind everybody that the Italians have been making sexy drop-tops for a really long time.

Changes compared to the 4C coupe are minimal, but they have swapped the insect-like carbon fiber headlights for a normal set with projectors and a clear cover. From our understanding, this feature will also be available on the coupe.

Also new is a large air intake in the lower left wing. It appears to be made from carbon fiber and could be there in order to cool the transmission when too much heat is created, during track days, for example.

Power will continue to be provided by a turbocharged 1.75-liter engine, although a slight increase on the current 240 PS (177 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) could be expected. Because the 4C is assembled around a carbon fiber tub that's very strong and light enough to be lifted by a man, chopping the roof will only add about 15 kilos of extra weight, not enough to offset the performance of this automotive hummingbird.

Competition? Well, you could compare the 4C Spider to the Porsche Boxster GTS, but in all honesty, this is a car unlike any other on the road, something you save for a very special occasion. Stunning looking thing – we'd have 2 of these over a Ferrari 458 any day!
