Americans love their muscle cars as much as ever, but it seems that some of them do this in a rwong way. We’re referring to car thieves here, who appear to prefer the Chevrolet Camaro, the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger, in this exact order.
The tree took the podium of a stolen car study that was recently released by the National Insurance Crime Bureau, with the research targeting sporty cars belonging to the 2010-2012 model years.
Like we said, the Camaro was the winner, with 1,509 units finding a new master against their will. The Mustang came second, with 980 vehicles being stolen, while 782 Challengers were stolen.
Car thieves also have a taste for European metal, as the Porsche Panamera and the Audi A5, together with its S5 hot version, took the fourth and the fifth positions. The two managed to top the Chevrolet Corvette, which took sixth place.
Top ten is completed by the Nissan 370Z, the BMW 6 Series, Porsche 911 and, rather surprisingly, the VW Eos.
California is where the most sporty vehicles were stolen, with Florida and Texas following. However, the recovery is just as important and when it comes to this, New York, Los Angeles and Detroit are the cities with the highest rate for unrecovered vehicles.
