Skye is Callum's first vehicle developed under its own brand and fully in-house. It's "beautifully engineered" and a "high-performance, multi-terrain vehicle." That makes it glaringly obvious that we are dealing with a company run by a designer rather than an engineer, right?
Ian Stuart Callum (with CBE, FRSE, and RDI attached to his name) is an almost 70-year-old British car designer famous for models like the RS200 and Escort RS Cosworth, Aston Martin DB7 and Vanquish, Jaguar C-X75 and I-Pace, among many others. He worked for the Blue Oval company, TWR, Aston Martin, and also Jaguar Land Rover until 2019.

After that, just like another famous British Designer (Gordon Murray and his GMA – Gordon Murray Automotive), he branched out with his independent automotive and product design agency, simply named Callum (Designs). It specializes in unique and limited-edition products but has now gone wild with its first in-house product, Skye.

Dubbed as a "pioneering high-performance, all-wheel-drive, multi-terrain electric vehicle engineered to meet the rigorous demands of a variety of off-road terrains while still delivering ride comfort and handling on the road," this vehicle is an off-roader through-and-through, albeit a fully electric one. Savvy fans of the automotive realm know that it's hard to mix EVs with challenging trail adventures. Still, this specialized vehicle attempts just that with a "concise yet dramatic exterior design focused on function to perform off-road."

The looks are of a streamlined and fully enclosed side-by-side, if you ask our two cents on the matter, so it looks like it can handle snow, mud, and rocky terrain during the weekend and a few nights out in town during the work week. It's compact and has a 2+2 layout, though the cabin – which isn't shown in the initial photos – has a refined environment.

"At four meters long, the Callum Skye is dramatically proportioned with a concise exterior aesthetic driven by its capabilities. It has been designed to exceed expectations: minimal mass, maximum capability – exceptionally usable and an absolute joy to drive," explains Ian Callum, head of design at Callum. The vehicle measures 4,047 mm in length and 1,900 mm in width and features a space frame chassis, a trail-capable suspension, and a 42-kWh battery pack.

The latter delivers an estimated range of 170 miles, and customers can optionally order the high-performance version of the battery that allows ultra-fast charging, allegedly capable of topping up in less than ten minutes. The target dry weight is also ambitious - 1,150 kg, with 50/50 weight distribution and a zero to 60 mph sprint in less than four seconds.

Currently, the prototypes are going through "diligent engineering refinement and rigorous testing" in the UK and Europe. The company wants to wrap everything up in time to release final details and announce the first bespoke variants next spring. Of course, we have yet to learn anything about pricing or production plans.
