With the temperature climbing over 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) these days in Austin and the local barbecue tradition, you could easily say the Texans are used to tolerating fires, but a Porsche has recently took the city by surprise, bursting out in flames.
A 911 demonstrated the meaning of "spontaneous combustion", with the car catching fire at the Riverside and Congress junction - ironically enough, this was not far from the Colorado River.
Even more ironically, the unfortunate incident took place in the proximity of a Thai food place called "a touch of fire". Alas, the 911 had to take a bit more heat than that. The fire started at the back where the 911 holds its flat six, but the flames spread further than that.
The A fire truck managed to bring the situation under control, but, by the time the fire was put out, this had caused severe damage to the rear-engined coupe.
While the Porsche 911 GT3 has been recalled over a fire risk earlier this year, this appears to be one of the Carrera models, so it doesn't have anything to do with that story.
Nevertheless, we have to remind you that one of the early 911 batches had also been recalled due to a similar issue. This problem affected Carrera S models built between October 21, 2011 and January 24, 2012, with a fuel line disconnection caused by coolant line in proximity. This could've caused the engine to catch fire or stall, with either scenario potentially having dire consequences.
We're not aware if the burned 911 was the subject of any recall campaign, we just hope to see less of this fiery scenarios in the future.
