California is introducing a new law, aimed at protecting used car buyers. The initiative, the first of its kind in the country, is requiring auto dealers to check used vehicles against a federal government database and mark the cars with important problems using a red sticker, as NY Times writes.
The lobby for the law came from consumer advocates, used car dealers, as well as law enforcement advocates. This is an excellent project, as people in the market for an used car will now be aware of the history of the vehicles they are about to acquire, an issue that is waiting for a solution for a very long time.

Others states might adopt this law in the future, but it is unclear at the moment whether it will become widespread or not.
