In Cadillac's case, there's nothing wrong with the way in which the car works, but with the way in which it may behave in case of a crash. In the official recall notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the carmaker says it is recalling 20,224 CTS and CTS-V cars manufactured in 2009 and 2010 because off what it calls “increased risk of leg injury for the front passenger in case of a crash.”
The carmaker does not provide any additional details about the nature of the problem, but says that it's linked to the glove compartment assembly. GM will begin the recall on October 20, which will mean replacing the glove compartment assembly and even modify the instrument panel structure in some cases. It's not known whether the knees airbags are an issue in the recall. As usual, the repairs will be done free of charge for the owners.
The new version of the Cadillac CTS is powered by a direct injected 3.6l V6 unit that develops 304 horsepower, paired to a six-speed manual transmission. Fuel consumption rating is estimated at 27 mpg (8.7 l/100km) on the highway.
The CTS will be offered with two packages, Performance and Summer Tire Performance. The vehicle comes equipped with 14-Way adjustable Recaro sport seats, pop-up navigation system, integrated iPod/MP3 capability, Bluetooth capability, rear camera system and adaptive forward lighting system.
