GM has announced that it will be debuting their sporty range-extender, the Cadillac ELR at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, and more specifically on January 15th. It is one of many GM premieres slated to be revealed at the US motoring venue, along with the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra and the all-important Corvette C7.
They will be showing off the production version of the car for the first time, and judging by their most recent teaser, it stays true to the original Converj concept, also shown in Detroit, but in 2009. It will borrow the Volt’s T-shaped battery pack, yet the rest of the powertrain is a mystery - the only thing we know for certain is the fact that it will be a range-extender hybrid.
We speculate that it will ditch the 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated unit which provides power for the Volt, and it may get a smaller-displacement unit, fitted with a turbocharger, or a variation of the already-existing 1.4-liter turbo motor, which powers many Opel and Vauxhall models - it makes 138 hp.
