Cadillac DTS Named Most Dependable Large Premium Saloon

The Cadillac DTS has been named the industry’s most dependable large premium vehicle in the 2010 Vehicle Dependability Study from J.D. Power and Associates.

The J.D. Power Study indicates that the DTS registered the lowest level of issues in the industry, with 76 problems per 100 units.

It’s gratifying for DTS to excel in a study that is well respected by consumers,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac marketing. “Luxury buyers value leadership in the products they select, from brands that they trust.

The J.D. Power and Associated annual Vehicle Dependability Study aims to offer information on the quality of reliability of vehicles on the U.S. market, as they approach the end of the standard warranty cycle. The latest edition of the survey questioned over 52,000 owners - they were asked to report all the issues recorded during the past year on model year 2007 vehicles.

The Cadillac DTS is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.6 liter V8 engine that develops 292 hp at 6,300 rpm and 288 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. The unit returns a fuel consumption figure of 18.5 mpg (combined cycle)/15 mpg (urban cycle)/ 22 mpg (highway cycle).

At the end of last year, GM announced that it will recall 126 units of the DTS, as these failed to meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Standard no. 110 - “Tire selection and rims”. The car did not feature tire and loading information labels that list the correct tire and vehicle loading information. GM said that it won’t request owners to visit its dealers, but will mail the correct labels to them, along with an installation manual.
