Cadillac Confirms Entry Luxury Sports Sedan

GM's President and CEO Fritz Henderson has just announced that Cadillac, one of the new GM's four core brands, is developing an entry luxury sports sedan that would better address the economic recession damaged US market. Details are still in the very early stage but Henderson says the car will be also sold outside the United States. It will be offered with a rear-wheel drive system, while an all-wheel drive configuration will come as an option.

It will compete in the segment below the CTS and is expected to arrive in 2010 to be sold as model year 2011. Obviously, the new Cadillac will rely on a much improved engine lineup, particularly optimized for the best fuel economy and reduced emissions.

“The key to restarting this company lies with GM’s customers, cars and culture,” Henderson said. “With four focused brands, we are committed to exceeding our current customers’ expectations and giving consumers plenty of reasons to choose a Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac car or truck.”

“We are determined to repeat what CTS has already achieved in design, quality, driving dynamics, performance and fuel economy to grow our presence in this high-volume and highly competitive segment."

Overall, Cadillac will launch five new models through 2011, including the all-new SRX and CTS Sport Wagon that will come to market this month. For the SRX, a new, 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine is standard, and a new, 2.8L turbocharged V-6 is optional. Both feature greater fuel economy and lower emissions.

More details on Cadillac's new entry luxury sports sedan are expected to surface in the upcoming months.
