GM New Models Announced

Former bankrupt automaker General Motors has just announced, through the voice of its President and CEO Fritz Henderson, the new cars, crossovers and trucks that will debut through 2011 under the four core brands it now owns. The star of the show is Chevrolet Volt which is able to achieve a fuel consumption rating of 230 mpg in the city, if we trust the figures given by General Motors. Cadillac is currently developing an entry level luxury sports sedan, beside the SRX crossover and the CTS Sport Wagon that will be launched this month. The new SRX will be offered with two engines, a 3.0-liter direct injected V6 as standard and an optional 2.8-liter turbocharged V6. The CTS Sport Wagon achieves 28 mpg on the highway and it nearly doubles the cargo carrying capacity, with 25 cubic feet (720 liters) of space behind the rear seats and 53.4 cubic feet (1,523 liters) with the rear seat folded.
Buick will introduce the new LaCrosse which will be offered with a choice of two direct injected V6 engines. A 2.4L four-cylinder engine joins the lineup later. Additionally, the brand will debut a compact crossover SUV that will achieve more than 30 mpg on the highway, with a plug-in hybrid to follow in 2011.

Chevrolet will bring the new Equinox powered by a 2.4-liter engine, standard on all models, which provides a mileage of 32 mpg on the highway for FWD models.

Last but not least, GMC will roll out the new Terrain crossover SUV, with the same engine improvements for better fuel economy and reduced emissions.

“The key to restarting this company lies with GM’s customers, cars and culture,” Henderson said. “With four focused brands, we are committed to exceeding our current customers’ expectations and giving consumers plenty of reasons to choose a Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac car or truck.”

“Our customers are the reason we’re here. It’s critical to have their voices help shape our products, and their experience with them,” Henderson said. “Their feedback helps us learn and evolve so we can continuously improve our cars and trucks, and our customer relationships.”
