Even though it’s available to order for the 2020 model year, the mid-engine Corvette with the convertible option isn’t in production right now. Last time we’ve heard, Chevy is planning to push this body style into the 2021 model year.
Kai Spande, the assembly plant manager at Bowling Green, said it’s too early to offer a definite date right now. He also touched on the subject of supplies, approximately 400 of them, who help Bowling Green churn out the eighth-gen ‘Vette.

Truth be told, Chevy already has a few problems to sort with the removable-top coupe if you’ve been following our C8 Corvette coverage on autoevolution. From uneven stitching on the dashboard to a screw that gouges the driver’s door paint, there are many things the quality assurance and control departments have to do.

“I get it, alright, but why are you showing me pictures of the C8 Corvette Convertible in the wild?” As you can tell from the manufacturer’s license plate, this is clearly not a customer car. But most importantly, Long Beach Red is a rare color even for the coupes that have been built so far. The paintwork alone is listed at $995.

Uploaded on the Corvette Forum by member Sin City, this car is a 2LT trim level with the Z51 Performance Package, red brake calipers, sporty seats, and a two-tone interior with leather upholstery and suede microfiber inserts here and there. This configuration is close to $85,000 based on the options we can tell from the pictures, and care to guess which option is the most expensive of the lot? Yep, it’s the top!

Including destination charge, the most affordable C8 Corvette is the 1LT coupe at $59,995. Going convertible adds $7,500, and the retractable hard top also makes the car heavier by 102 pounds (as in 3,637 pounds or 1,650 kilograms).

The thing that’s most curious about the convertible is… wait for it… the only paint option for the nacelles. Specifying Carbon Flash adds $1,295 to the price, and if you so wish, Chevrolet can paint the roof in Carbon Flash or leave it in the body color at no additional cost. Still, more than a grand for two painted buttresses sounds like money down the drain to most people's ears.
