The last time I talked about the coolest Chevrolet cars on sale (ironically, they're also the only ones, if we don't count the $25k Malibu sedan) – aka the Corvette and Camaro nameplates – I didn't bring any good news. Now it's time I make up about that.
Back then, I cited a couple of reports that spoke about the rising prices of the 2024 Corvette models – up $2k across the field – and the fact that General Motors might end production of the sixth generation Camaro pony/muscle car a bit earlier than anticipated. As such, according to the rumor mill, the latter will go the way of the dodo in late November (Convertible) and early December (coupe) instead of January 2024.

It's a sad reminder that not only the EV revolution is upon us but also that crossovers, SUVs, and trucks dominate the car market – and they're excellent tools for automakers to blame rising MSRPs on the inflation while covering their relentless search for ever-fattening profits. Anyway, luckily, the world of amateur motorsport doesn't care a bit about that – at least if we are to take the realm of quarter-mile dragstrip racing into account.

So, meet the videographer behind the Wheels channel on YouTube. He (or she) is a big fan of a couple of 'local' dragstrips in America – Bandimere Speedway (aka Thunder Mountain, as it is known across the NHRA) hosts the NHRA's Dodge//SRT Mile-High Nationals just outside Morrison and Lakewood, Colorado; and The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which probably needs no more introduction as its one of the nation's few four-lane dragways.

But the videographer also loves Canada's Mission Raceway Park – known as Thunder River – an NHRA-sanctioned dragstrip (plus road course and motocross track) in Mission, British Columbia. We have seen a lot of feisty action from there over the time we have been closely watching this dedicated channel. And now, of course, it's time to put the spotlight on the latest Corvette – the Z06.

A burgundy-shaded 670-hp flat-plane V8 monster was on point to demonstrate the latest performance, and the videographer thought about putting it into the proper perspective with a feuding C8 Chevy Corvette Stingray, not just random opponents. Speaking of the latter, the first skirmish for the Z06 was with a lovely, old-school second-generation Chevy Camaro that was clearly restored and upgraded for contemporary duties.

As it turns out, the 2023 Corvette Z06, with its record-breaking V8 engine and modern aerodynamics, was no match for the traditional muscle car – the latter was obliterated with almost two seconds to spare. However, a 10.78s pass against a 12.76s result is not bad when considering the age difference, right? Secondly, an orange Stingray went head-to-head with an old Chevy truck, and again, that was no match for the mid-engine hoot – 11.97s versus 14.40s.

However, when evening fell, it was time for the Z06 to duke it out with its Stingray sibling, and because the latter was quicker off the start line, it was a lot harder to ascertain supremacy, too. As such, the Corvette sibling' rivalry ended with one of those boring 'it's close, but not close enough' results: 12.04s versus 12.62s. Can you guess the winner, though? Of course, it was the Z06, albeit the difference was much smaller than initially anticipated. Oh, well, maybe the upcoming E-Ray will fare a little better with its eAWD ace-up-electrification sleeve.
