Bugatti Sedan to Use Audi A8 Platform

Volkswagen has developed a new production plan within the group and each of the brands included in what could become the number one carmaker by 2018 are expected to contribute, more or less, to future projects. After Porsche has been handed production of all sportscars included in Volkswagen Group and Audi has become responsible for all SUVs to be produced by these brands, the German owner makes a new move.

Bugatti will enter a major makeover process that will see the brand abandon the high-performance products it is famous for and concentrate on something else. According to German magazine Spiegel, the Veyron could soon become history as Bugatti might change its focus from 2014 when it will start building luxurious sedans.

Of course, the models produced by Bugatti would only be addressed to a limited number of people and will have exorbitant prices, but even so, this could be much more profitable for Volkswagen Group than the Bugatti brand is in the current state. The first project could take the form of a luxurious sedan that would use the platform of the Audi A8, most likely its next generation, to be built at the same time with the Galibier.

What's interesting is that the Galibier, if it indeed remains in production, will probably come as a limited series of 300 units, with features to be even more luxurious and expensive than the sedan based on the A8.

As always, there's no confirmation from either Bugatti or Volkswagen Group, so we're still waiting for a statement on the matter to confirm or deny the report.
