The automotive world’s epicenter has moved to Arabia these days, as the Qatar Motor Show is hosting some of the most impressive automotive creations on the planet. Of course, the king of four-wheeled creatures, the Bugatti Veyron had to be present.
The French automotive producer is allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, the world’s fastest topless car.
When the roof is mounted, the Grand Sport can take its passengers up to 407 km/h (253 mph), while with the roof off, the hypercar can hit 360 km/h (223 mph). The vehicle is also fitted with an “emergency” soft-top roof. When using this automotive umbrella, the vehicle offers a top speed of 160 km/h (100 mph).
“The main challenge when developing the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with its removable hard-top roof resulted from the unique structure of the Veyron. An optimum combination of rigidity and lightweight engineering ensured an extremely strong but very lightweight passenger cell,” the press release explains.
“As the roof was an integral part of the vehicle’s structure, removing it meant the load paths had to be completely redesigned to maintain the vehicle’s rigidity and safety during crashes – and the car needed to offer additional protection from side impacts and rolling. As a result, the monocoque structure was reinforced around the side skirts and the transmission tunnel.”
The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport 16.4 comes with a price of EUR1.4 million/$1.9 million (this does not include taxes and delivery).
