Buemi Denies Signing Toro Rosso Extension

Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi insisted that he did not sign any agreement to continue with Scuderia Toro Rosso for the 2011 Formula One season. In a time when most drivers are dying to secure their seats for the upcoming campaign as soon as possible, the 21-year old racer seems to think of his future a bit differently as compared to his fellow colleagues in the paddock.

I haven't signed yet. There are some details missing and the driver market is still open,” Buemi was quoted as saying in an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick.

His comments were issued shortly after STR's boss Franz Tost confirmed via a statement that both Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari will continue with the team for the 2011 campaign also.

I believe our drivers will be well prepared for 2011, which is why they are both confirmed for next year,” said the statement.

The Swiss driver has recently been linked with a move to Renault for the upcoming campaign, as it was the very team principal of the Enstone team, Eric Boullier, who told the media that Buemi “is on our list” for 2011. Vitaly Petrov's contract runs out at the end of the 2010 season, and the French manufacturer is already considering several drivers to replace him next season.

Kimi Raikkonen and Adrian Sutil are also on the hunt for the only remaining seat in the Renault lineup. However, Buemi has another interesting option for the future, which is to stay at Toro Rosso until 2012, when he may take Mark Webber's place at Red Bull.
