Toro Rosso Retains Buemi, Alguersuari for 2011

Scuderia Toro Rosso became the 6th team in the Formula One championship to have confirmed its drivers lineup for the 2011 season. For the 2nd campaign in a row, youngsters Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari will drive the STR cars for a full season, regardless of what their performances will be throughout the remainder of the 2010 season.

I believe our drivers will be well prepared for 2011, which is why they are both confirmed for next year,” said team principal Franz Tost when making the official announcement.

It is also logical, because one key role of Scuderia Toro Rosso is to bring on young drivers from the Red Bull young driver programme and at the ages of 21 and 20 respectively, both Seb and Jaime certainly still meet the right criteria,” added the Austrian boss.

This will therefore be Buemi's 3rd consecutive year with the Faenza based organization, as the Swiss driver began his F1 career with STR back in 2009. His younger teammate, however, entered the Great Circus midway through last season and had to work with his sponsors to secure his 2010 campaign.

At the beginning of the ongoing championship campaign, both drivers expressed their hopes to move to Red Bull Racing for the 2011 season. Back then, Mark Webber's situation in the Milton Keynes based organization was not very clear, as his contract was to run out at the end of 2010. Nevertheless, with the 33-year old Aussie extending his stay at Red Bull Racing, both will have to wait and prove themselves in the process in order to potentially team up with Sebastian Vettel in 2012.

In the 2010 drivers classification, Sebastien Buemi is placed 14th overall, with 7 points, while his teammate Jaime Alguersuari scored only 3 points for 16th place.
