Brembo, Marelli and Pirelli to Work on Cyber Tyre

Brembo, Magneti Marelli and Pirelli recently announced an agreement that will help the three companies develop high-end technologies for both the Italian and the global automotive industry, helping automakers to better achieve international regulations through increased safety and enhanced performance. In other words, the three Italian groups aim to collaborate on new technologies that would help automakers around the world design more advanced vehicles while remaining focused on two important aspects: safety and engine performance.

And the best example is given by Pirelli's Cyber Tyre, a special system that establishes a connection between the ECU and the tire, permanently providing information regarding the tire condition, such as operating temperature, pressure, typology of the road surface, eventual duration and distance when running deflated and dimensions of the footprint area. The Cyber Tyre is especially designed to work in collaboration with other electronic systems, including ESP, ABS, ASR and traction control.

According to a Pirelli statement released to the press, the Cyber Tyre technology will be integrated with Magneti Marelli's electronic control system and with Brembo's braking system which will result in better safety and braking solutions for global automakers. The alliance was especially formed “in order to realize ad hoc technology solutions, at the service of performance and safety requirements of all types of customers,” as Pirelly wrote in the statement.

“The internationally recognized skills and excellence of the three Italian groups will allow for important synergies and for development of applications in particular in the field of safety systems for automobiles, also in order to reduce environmental impact, in line with the evolution of international regulations and new European Union CO2 emissions limits to enter into force in 2012,” it said.
