There are certain parts of the automotive culture that are best left to the gaming world, specifically the Need For Speed series. You know, stuff like stealing a brand new Porsche Boxster GTS and running away from the police.
The events described above are just a small part of an illegal adventure orchestrated by Aiden John O'Brien-Daniels, a 20-year-old man from the UK.
The police car dash cam captured the chase, which looks either like the perfect real-life incarnation of an NFS chase or the worst nightmare of anybody who owns a sportscar with just five miles on its odometer.
Despite having grabbed the keys to a Boxster GTS, one of the most balanced sportscars out there, the thief didn’t manage to run away from the Sussex Police. While the officers have the target in their sight for most of the chase, the pursuit ends with the classic crash. An accident that, according to the authorities, left the car totaled. What ended the chase? A mini-roundabout. Fortunately, nobody was injured during the chase, which saw the man pulling plenty of wild maneuvers.
Judging by the distance that had been covered by the owner of the Boxster, the Zuffenhausen machine had barely been driven from the dealership to his house (story happened in Hastings and Bexhill-on-Sea).
As we mentioned in the intro, the man was involved in a string of offenses that only climaxed in the Porsche Cayman GTS wreck. The string also included burglary, robbery, handling stolen keys and aggravated taking of a vehicle without consent. We’d also like to add poor handling of a Zuffenhausen automobile to the list. Sure, the GTS might not come in limited numbers like the Boxster Spyder, but seeing one ruined this way is still infuriating.
O'Brien-Daniels pleaded guilty to all charges being pressed against him and was sentenced to six years in prison. Without a reset button, of course.
