Bourdais Reveals He Was Fired by SMS

Once he settled amicable with his former team Toro Rosso outside the court, Sebastien Bourdais is now as free as a bird. Not that he likes it too much, but the Frenchman is trying to adapt to his new position as “free agent” for the season to come. He has plenty of time to land an F1 job for 2010 – which he confirmed it's now top priority – as there are at least 6 racing spots up for grabs next year.

However, the Frenchman doesn't seem to get over his disappointing relationship with the Faenza based team. Although he reckons he was partially responsible for the poor results he had at Toro Rosso, Bourdais admitted he was mostly upset by the way his contract with the team ended.

Shortly after the German Grand Prix, when he only got to drive for about 18 laps due to a hydraulic problem with his STR4, the team let him know his services will no longer be needed for the remainder of 2009. And that would have been OK – kind of – if it was done by the book. However, as revealed by Bourdais, the whole firing thing was done via the SMS.

The way they got rid of me was very disappointing. Dietrich Mateschitz was at the Nurburgring but he did not speak with me. He did not call me. Everything was done by SMS, which to me has no style,” revealed the 30-year old Frenchman for French publication Autohebdo.

In addition though, he did point out part of the blame for not being able to secure his job with STR was his, as he reckoned he's not the type of driver to adapt to a car, but rather whose car is built around him. And, since Toro Rosso did not provided him with that strategy, he was unable to shine at the wheel of the STRs like teammates Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Buemi.

That was never my best strength (adapt to the car)” admitted Bourdais in the aforementioned interview.
