Bourdais Wants F1 Drive in 2010

French driver Sebastien Bourdais is determined to make a Formula One comeback from as early as next year. After being ousted by Scuderia Toro Rosso following the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, the former 4-time Champ Car winner is now eyeing a drive with a newly-entrant for the 2010 Formula One Championship.

Bourdais has just come to a deal with his former team – settled outside the court – following his sack and is now only focusing on his future. He reckoned the FIA's in-season testing ban is a strong argument why he might be considered as a viable option for the 3 new teams that are to set foot inside F1 next year.

After all, the Frenchman is currently the only driver outside Formula One who has an extensive knowledge of the 2009 technical package – new aerodynamics, slick tires and so on – and his experience could count a lot in securing a 2010 deal. He can now help one of the newcomers build a somehow competitive car for next season.

Considering there is no testing, I could be an interesting choice for one of the new teams,” Bourdais was quoted as saying to French newspaper L'Equipe.

In addition to his Formula One plans, the 30-year old Frenchman also admitted he will stay committed to his Le Mans 24 Hours Race deal for as long as Peugeot will retain him.

I am under contract with Peugeot until the end of the year, and they seemed content with my work at Le Mans,” added Bourdais, who also ruled out a return to the Indy Car. The reason is quite simple, the lack of funds.

As for the United States, I always kept up contact with my team (Newman-Haas). The problem is they need money to run another car. Five million euros is not easy to find at the moment,” concluded the Frenchman.
