Bosch is the world’s largest automotive components supplier, and being such a big name, we need to take note whenever they have something to announce. This time, it’s their announcement of future manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries destined for EVs within the next 4 years, according to German magazine Focus.
Reports suggest that Bosch have plans to restructure a joint operation with Samsung involving the production of lithium-ion batteries, in order to supply the European market. The announcement is preceded by another announcement made by Bosch officials that they will be producing electronic control units, and the location chosen for their new venture is the central-Romanian town of Cluj-Napoca, with a planned investemnt of €77- ($97.5-) million and production expected to start in mid-2013.
This wouldn’t be Bosch’s first contact with Romania, with the German giant already having numerous large and small facilities all throughout the country, employing a total of 1,400 people.
