Bob Dylan, Future Voice of Satnav

The renowned American musician Bob Dylan has revealed plans of lending his voice for satnav systems, though many would have thought he would only go back to the studio to record new songs.

The 68-year-old artist who has been a major influence in music for five decades recently admitted that he has been approached by two major carmakers in order to record their GPS directions on the navigation systems.

Dylan was quoted by the Daily Mail speaking on his BBC radio show: “I am talking to a couple of car companies about being the voice of their GPS system. I think it would be good if you are looking for directions and hear my voice saying something like: "Left at the next street, no a right - you know what? Just go straight"."

“I probably shouldn't do it because whichever way I go I always end up at one place - Lonely Avenue. He is currently enjoying radio success on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 6 with his Theme Time Radio Hour show, delivered in the distinctive voice once described as 'sandpaper singing,” he added.

During his career, Dylan has sold more than 70 million albums and served as an inspiration for many artists, including John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie. His importance was that much appreciated that he has been included in the Time 100: The Most Important People of the Century.

Other celebrity voices already available on satnav systems include Kim Cattrall, Homer Simpson, Alan Partridge and Mr T, the character from 1980s TV series The A-Team.
