When people ask us what’s the most powerful and performance oriented SUV on the market, our thoughts naturally drift towards the X6 M, since it’s clearly focused on going fast above all else. But in the age of the economic crisis and high fuel prices, this expensive, thirsty monster a bit of a gimmick.
But now BMW has managed to combine the M-specific performance with a bit more sensibleness to create a completely new vehicle, the X6 M50d. As we’ve reported in the past, this is powered by a 3.0-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo engine that puts out 381 hp and peak torque of 740 Newton metres (546 lb-ft) of peak torque.
This allows the BMW X6 M50d to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. That’s just 0.6 seconds slower than the X6 M, and with more 62 Nm more torque, anything can happen in a real-world sprint.
The X6 M50d does the sensible, boring part just as well, as BMW says average fuel consumption is 7.7 liter/100 km (36.7 mpg), which is equivalent to CO2 emissions of only 204 g/km.
The car will be unveiled officially in Geneva and will be priced at €85,800 in Germany.
