BMW X5 M and X6 M Video Confirms Over 500 HP

The beginning of the month brought unconfirmed news that the new versions of the X5 and X6, dubbed M, will bring along a boost in power. According to the source code behind the official mini site of the new Xs, their engines will be able to develop 500 horsepower and above.

The rumor was confirmed by an exclusive RTL II Grip magazine interview with the test drivers (Steffen Weissert and Robert Fassl) of both the X5 M and X6 M. The prototypes are currently undergoing winter testing in the Scandinavian Peninsula.

Understanding the video is no easy feat, as the interview was taken in German. Even more, no translation is available. Still, three minutes and twenty five seconds into the video, the German journalist give us what we were looking for.

The BMW X6 M will develop over 500 horsepower and will be able to reach a top speed of 250 km/hour. According to RTL II Grip (via bimmertoday.de), the new X6 will go from naught to sixty in under five seconds.

As we reported earlier this month, the X5 M and X6 M will use V8 engines with Twin Scroll twin Turbo systems. Most likely, the new versions will have a base price that will exceed the 100,000 euro mark.

The unveiling of the new additions to the BMW range will officially take place on April 4. Undoubtedly, more information, perhaps even on official channels will surface. Until these 19 remaining days pass, we will have to keep our eyes on the BMW X5 M and X6 M mini site, the same one that first reveled these features through its source code. Updated with full details and photos on April 4th here.
