BMW X1 Pricing, Release Date Announced

For a third day in a row, German manufacturer BMW makes the headlines with their X1 model. After first releasing photos and then technical details, it was time for the missing piece of the puzzle to get unveiled.

BMW announced pricing for the X1 and, as rumors stated long before today, the entry level X1, the rear-wheel drive sDrive18d, will start at 27,200 euro, while the top of the range xDrive28i will enter showrooms starting at 41,500 euro (both are Germany prices), Autonews reported.

The new Xs will begin sales after the official presentation at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, on October 24, to be more precise. In 2011, the X1 will take to the States. Unfortunately for those who wanted the X1 as soon as possible but didn't have the money, BMW will at first introduce the more expensive version, with the entry-level ones to follow.

We say unfortunately because, as you can see, the difference between the two starting prices is well over 10,000 euros. The entry level version will not arrive in dealership prior to spring 2010.

Engine wise, there will be six versions of the X1 namely the xDrive28i, xDrive23d, xDrive20d, sDrive20d, xDrive18d and sDrive18d. The most powerful unit, fitted on the xDrive28i, is a six-cylinder, 258 hp gasoline unit. It can reach sixty in 6.8 seconds and tops at a speed of 205 km/h (127 mph - 230 km/h or 143 mph with optional high-speed set-up).
