BMW X1 Official Details Released

As we were telling you yesterday, German manufacturer BMW was on the verge to release the official details of the new X1, after the leakage of the official gallery showing the baby X. Finally, BMW released last night the official details as well.

Engine wise, there will be six versions of the X1 namely the xDrive28i, xDrive23d, xDrive20d, sDrive20d, xDrive18d and sDrive18d. The most powerful unit, fitted on the xDrive28i, is a six-cylinder, 258 hp gasoline unit. It can reach sixty in 6.8 seconds and tops at a speed of 205 km/h (127 mph - 230 km/h or 143 mph with optional high-speed set-up).

At the opposite end, the sDrive18d and its four-cylinder diesel engine develop only 143 hp, allowing it to reach sixty in 9.6 seconds and top at a speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). All the technical details of the six engines, including fuel consumption and CO2 emissions can be found in the BMW X1 Engine Range Sheet.

The drivetrains fitted on the X1 make full use of BMW's latest, including the already familiar EfficientDynamics: Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start Stop and a gearshift point indicator.

Future owners of the X1 will have their life made easier by technologies like high-precision power steering, high-performance brakes, Dynamic Stability Control including Dynamic Traction Control and, as an option, Performance Control acting on the brakes.

Safety wise, as you might expect, BMW has cut no corners. Standard features include three-point inertia-reel seat belts all round, frontal and side airbags as well as head airbags at the side, adaptive Brake Lights and daytime driving lights. Optionally, customers may choose Xenon headlights, Adaptive Headlights and a High-Beam Assistant.

Comfort and infotainment is taken care of by BMW iDrive including a Controller and direct selection buttons on the centre console, a Control Display in the instrument panel. Numerous driver assistance systems and the wide range of BMW ConnectedDrive services are also available. Useless to say, Bluetooth and all the gadgets we now can't live without are also present. Full details can be found in the attached PDF.

And, finally, the moment we all have been waiting for. On the inside, BMW X1 provides the driver with an elevated seating position and a wide range of storage options. The rear-seat backrest is adjustable for angle and folds down in a 40/20/20 split. Luggage compartment capacity may be increased from 420 liters/14.7 cubic feet to a maximum of 1,350 liters/47.3 cu ft. An electrically operated Panorama glass roof is available as an option.

The BMW X1 is not actually here, so we still have some waiting to do before finding out how much will the Germans charge for the small SUV. So far, rumors place it in the 30,000 – 35,000 euro range.
