BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics to Be Built in Leipzig

While rumors that BMW is planning a hybrid super-car have been confirmed just two weeks ago, the company apparently forgot to mention where the car would be built and how it would be called. It has been reported that the Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept is supposed to enter production in 2013, most likely at the Leipzig Plant in Eastern Germany.

The Leipzig plant will be expanded and will become specialized in the manufacturing of carbon fiber vehicles. The new Vision Efficient Dynamics concept will have an aluminum platform and a body made, for the most part, of carbon fiber materials.

Passenger safety will be of the highest degree, thanks to the aluminum front-end, and it is said that repairs for minor accidents will be relatively cheap.

With production expected to start in the second half of 2013, deliveries are likely to begin in early to mid 2014. Although it's a bit early to know for sure, BMW hopes to sell as much as 1,000 units of the hybrid sports car.

According to Automobilwoche, BMW could release the Vision Efficient Dynamics concept under a different brand name, as is the case with the Megacity Vehicle that could also be produced at the same Leipzig plant. The name of the brand hasn't been mentioned so far, so it's safe to assume the BMW board members haven't made up their mind yet. As reported, the company is likely to make a decision some time during the next year, either in March during the press conference at which they will announce quarterly financial reports, or in July.
