BMW’s M4 is set to receive a facelift in 2017, almost two years after its 3 Series brother got a restyling.
Our friends at SB-Medien were there to spot the “LCI,” as BMW calls facelifts, of the M4 while it was being tested. These are not the first spy shots of the BMW M4 Coupe facelift, but they do bring images that help us put the changes introduced into a new perspective.

BMW’s Life Cycle Impulse for the M4 seems to wear elements from the M4 GTS, as you can observe with the alloy wheels and the aerodynamic features. While it is no surprise to see the items developed for an enhanced performance variant of a model trickle down into the “regular” range, this is curious to see with an M car, which is already a high-performance version of a regular model.

In the case of the M4 facelift with GTS parts, it is a clear case of inception. Some might call it “partsception,” but each to their own. If the aerodynamic elements developed for the M4 Coupe GTS will be lent to the regular M4, it will be curious to see what BMW will do to the model in the range that best embodies the idea of automotive inception, followed closely by the 3 Series GT.

However, no, the BMW model that is the definition of "Inception" is the 4 Series Gran Coupe. We say that this happens because it is the four-door coupe version of the coupe version of a four-door sedan.

Moreover, the 4 Series Gran Coupe can also be specified as an M4 so that the inception could reach a whole new level with aerodynamic elements from the M4 GTS.

The prototype spotted by SB-Medien while it was driving on winding roads features three wheels from an M4 GTS, while the fourth alloy has a different design. As you can observe, the car has a modified hood, a slightly altered front grille, a new set of headlamps, and a distinct inferior part of the front bumper.

The rear of the M4 Coupe LCI features a set of new taillights, a modified trunk lid, and an integrated rear spoiler. The elements described above all come with camouflage, as you can observe.

Except for a de-badging operation and the mild layer of camouflage, BMW has not bothered in covering the M4 Coupe facelift from the prying lens of spy photographers.

The M4 Coupe facelift is expected to come to market sometime in mid to late 2017, as sources say it is a 2018 model year vehicle. Some of the changes seen on this car are expected to be shared by the M3, but the latter will probably get some adaptations suitable for its body style.
