You'll forgive us for not talking straight, but the BMW M4 is so mouth watering. What's an M4? Well, that's a simple question to answer – the coolest compact performance coupe we've ever seen.
Just like the 3 Series coupe has moved to the 4 Series name, so too musth the E92 M3 be replaced by the M4, which has no official codename yet but is believed to be known as the F82. Speaking of codenames, this brand new M4 looks like a direct descendent of the E46 M3 Coupe. From the golden paint to the stance and the positioning of the exhaust, it just screams classic M.
That is no coincidence though, because BMW wants the new M to be about as light as the one two generations ago and has also returned to six-cylinder engines. The successor S65 4-liter natural aspirated V8 is going to be a multi-turbo 3-liter engine called the S55.
Of course, since the M4 Coupe is just a concept, there's no information about the engine. But we have reason to believe the new M will offer up 422 PS and (415bhp) and about 395 lb-ft of torque (535 Nm) of torque. With this added power and a lighter chassis, the M4 will probably reach 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Top speed will of course be restricted, but owners can look forward to 20% improvements in fuel economy.
Design wise, the M4 is similar to the 435i. However, it's visibly wider. BMW has intentionally left in small hints to show where they've added body mass and fiber. The roof is carbon fiber, the spoiler at the front is carbon fiber and the covers of the exhaust tips are also carbon fiber, just like on a custom Akrapovic system.
The M4 will be ready for production next year. Time to start saving.
