1,540 BMW E70 X5 xDrive35d models will be recalled by the German company due to fuel filter heater malfunctions, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
All the cars have been manufactured between June 13, 2009 and November 9, 2009. It seems like that particular model's filter heater can experience an electrical overload that may cause it to function continuously.

That means that the part (that heats up the fuel when temperatures are low outside) could still be working even when the ignition's off and drain the battery. In extreme conditions, it may lead to overheating, becoming a fire hazard.

The fuel filter will be replaced free of charge, beginning with this month, at authorized BMW dealerships and service centers.
