BMW’s spirit really couldn’t mix with one of those tiny-engined machines called scooter, so the title of this piece of news must sound pretty shocking. If we press the “rewind” button, we travel 9 years back to the moment when BMW discontinued their latest scooter, the C1, a two-wheeled machine that came with a roof. But what are we doing here? We should be pushing the “Fast-Forward” button instead.
Good... now we see BMW returning to the scooter market, with the Bavarians being eager to throw a punch in the ego fight with Audi, which recently purchased Ducati.
Like we said, you won’t see 50cc machines wearing BMW badges, as the company plans to introduce maxi scooters, which are aimed at attracting customers who used to own motorbikes when they were young. BMW wants to sell at least 10,000 high-powered scooters next year, a figure that can be translated into 9 percent of the company’s bike sales in 2011.
