BMW Posts September Sales Increase

As it has accustomed us this year, German manufacturer BMW announced a mild, yet consistent growth in the number of units sold in September. For BMW, the growth, 16.8 percent, means that in September 2010 142,950 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce cars have been sold, compared to the 122,360 units sold in September last year.

BMW, the core brand of the manufacturer, reported 117,467 sold units in September, the strongest growth of the three brands (20.4 percent). MINI followed suit with a growth of 1.9 percent (25,222 units), while Rolls Royce, the worst performer of 2009, managed to recover and announced sales of 261 units, or a huge leap of 422 percent as compared to last year.

Growth was encouragingly strong in September, with gains on most of our markets. We have exceptional new products and intend to maintain this upward trend throughout the fourth quarter. Here, we expect to see robust growth in the double-digit percentage range,” Ian Robertson, BMW member of the board for Sales and Marketing said.

The top markets for the German carmaker remained Germany, the US and China. The Asian country now climbed to the third position in the top of BMW's best markets, having nearly doubled the sales of last year. The strong results of the year so far (BMW sold 1,062,216 vehicles since the beginning of the year) means that the carmaker has high hopes for the last three months of 2010.

“BMW Group retail has exceeded our expectations so far this year. We are confident to deliver more than 1.4 million vehicles over the course of 2010 and to remain the clear number 1 among premium manufacturers once again this year,” Robertson added.
