Slated to hit the production lines within a year, the i3 and i8 models won’t be the only vehicles available in BMW’s new i lineup.

According to Autocar, quoting an insider source, BMW is planning to introduce a Coupe version of the five-door i3. While offering a Coupe variant for the i3 wouldn’t be a big surprise, the German company is reportedly considering several other vehicles as well.

“There is the potential for other mid-sized concepts”, said the source, hinting towards a Concept Active Tourer-based MPV as well. However, BMW doesn’t want electrified crossovers yet, claiming that the LifeDrive platform couldn’t underpin X3 or X5-inspired models.

"With the i3 you have a megacity vehicle that offers zero emissions and a focus on practicality, while the i8 is an all-out sports car that demonstrates the extreme peformance that's possible using this technology," the insider added, leaving room for further i lineup extension speculation.

Until BMW calls anything official, we’ll be waiting for the i3 to be unveiled at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show scheduled in September.
