Some will say it's just a gimmick to attract even more hype and less controversy; others will frown at BMW's way of stripping down their styling to crucial design elements. But, truth be told, no one will be unimpressed by the new Vision Neue Klasse.
"The BMW Vision Neue Klasse combines our ability to innovate in the core areas of electrification, digitalization, and circularity," explained Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, during the IAA Mobility 2023 presentation where they showed their latest concept car. Yes, it's an updated i Vision Dee, a prototype that premiered early this year in January at CES 2023.

But some will also marvel at the choice of seeing a BMW without humongous vertical kidneys, without more creases than you can count, and without the typical flair for causing outrage from every angle you see the car. That's vastly different from what they are selling now, from the M2 to the i7 and everything in between.

It's also miles away from the BMW XM, although not necessarily in the best direction. However, the Bavarians promise this to be a preview of the next generation of vehicles from the core BMW brand. It is more like the BMW i department since the concepts are all-electric, but maybe they'll be the same one day. Until then, all these Vision vehicles, with Neue Klasse (new class in German) first shown at the International Motor Show in Munich, Germany, will just pave the way forward and gauge the public's interest.

Well, it's unclear if the general audience likes the Neue Klasse or not, but it seems the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has taken enough interest to make it their own. For example, Sugar Chow, the virtual artist better known as sugardesign_1 on social media, has paused his Chinese renderings once again and kicked off a veritable BMW Neue Klasse series.

For now, the first members of the expanded Vision family are an SUV and a station wagon, of course. Naturally, the crossover would be fit for being labeled as the next BMW X3 – the one that comes after the 2025 BMW X3, as the fourth generation of the compact CUV is already on the final approach to landing its official world premiere.

Secondly, the BMW Vision Neue Klasse, which is quite a traditional four-door sedan if you take out its styling quirkiness from the equation, also morphed into a Touring station wagon. The author also considered a potential name for it – and labeled it the BMW i3 Touring. Most wouldn't mind doing some grocery shopping in this all-electric estate, but some of the BMW purists did ask for integration of the Hofmeister kink – so which one is your favorite, the SUV or the station wagon?
